All of our high school youth events and activities fall under one of five categories, all of which are important for faith formation:

  • Worship
  • Study
  • Service
  • Fellowship
  • Mountaintop Experiences (trips or camps)
Worship

All youth and children are encouraged to worship with their families during our regular services.

Study

Our main time of study is HS Sunday school. This is a discussion-based class that is offered during Connections Hour from 10-11:00 on Sunday mornings.

Service

Events include

  • helping out at local animal shelters
  • making care packages for our college students
  • participating in the ACFB Hunger Walk and the MLK Day of Service
  • preparing and serving meals for the homeless
  • helping out as volunteers for VBS and other children’s activities.

Many High School youth also continue volunteering in worship as acolytes, crucifers, ushers, communion assistants, and other roles.  One of our biggest service events of the year is Youth Sunday, when our HS youth plan and run all three worship services for the congregation.

Fellowship

Fellowship activities vary according to what seems like the most fun!  We have game nights, go bowling, to trampoline parks, to escape games, laser tag, etc.  These are important times for building relationships and creating community in our group, and are also a great time to invite friends to church activities.

Mountaintop Experiences

Mountaintop experiences for this age group include retreats, lock ins, summer camp, and the ELCA Youth Gathering (held every three years).  We also encourage our youth to explore leadership roles in the Southeastern Synod Lutheran Youth Organization, where several of our youth have held elected positions in recent years.

High School is a time when our youth are growing in many ways and finding out what they can do independently.  They are learning and how to think and act for themselves and are exploring their natural talents.  Our youth program seeks to walk alongside them while offering opportunities to grow in maturity, leadership, servant-hood, and discipleship.
