About the event:
At the Santa Shop, we get to meet the families helped by this program and assist them in picking out gifts. It’s a great opportunity to make a difference in our community this season, through a program that treats recipients with dignity and respect. Volunteers receive instructions about how many items each family can choose, and (in groups of two or three) walk around the ‘shop’ with a recipient, carrying a bag to put their choices in. We may also assist with loading gifts into cars.
We will meet at COL and drive over together- parents, you are welcome to both help drive and participate in the project. We need adults to help the younger youth once we get there. We will have lunch before leaving Cross of Life. Please talk to Deacon Mary if you need to meet us at the location.
What to Bring/Wear:
- Dress warmly- there is no heat at the distribution site, and we may be outside the whole time
- Wear comfortable shoes, we will probably be walking or standing the whole time
What NOT to bring to any youth event: Leave toys, extra money and valuables such as electronics or jewelry at home (keep in mind that kids can become attached to items that are not normally considered valuable). We cannot be responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items. Lighters, fireworks, drugs, alcohol, sexually explicit materials, and weapons (including pocket knives) are strictly prohibited and possession of these items at the event will result in the participant being sent home immediately at the parent/guardian’s expense. Meals and snacks will be provided, it is not necessary to bring food. If you have special dietary restrictions and food allergies, please note them on the health form.
