Middle School Youth at Cross of Life

All of our youth events and activities fall under one of five categories, all of which are important for faith formation:

  • Worship
  • Study
  • Service
  • Fellowship
  • Mountaintop Experiences (trips or camps which combine the other categories).

All youth and children are encouraged to Worship with their families during our regular services.  During 7th and 8th grade, there is a heavier focus on Study for youth participating in Confirmation.  For information on our confirmation program, click here. With the exception of Confirmation classes, all students 6th-8th grade are invited to participate in all Middle School Youth activities.

Service events include helping out at local animal shelters, the ACFB Hunger Walk, the MLK Day of Service, delivering care packages to our elderly members for Valentine’s Day, preparing and serving meals for the homeless, and helping out as volunteers for VBS and other children’s activities. We also train students starting in 6th grade to be acolytes and crucifers for our worship services.

Fellowship activities vary according to what seems like the most fun!  We have movie nights, go bowling, to trampoline parks, to escape games, laser tag, etc.  These are important times for building relationships and creating community in our group, and are also a great time to invite friends to church activities.

Mountaintop Experiences for this age group include retreats, lock ins, summer camp, and (for rising 9th graders) the ELCA Youth Gathering (held every three years).

Middle school is a time of remarkable growth for our young people, and can also be a time of confusion as their bodies, minds, and social groups change drastically.  It is our privilege to walk alongside our youth as they navigate this new reality, and offer them a place where they can feel welcome, safe, and empowered to use their new skills for the glory of God.
